About G-Star RAW
G-Star RAW occupies a specific corner of the denim market - not fast fashion, not luxury, but somewhere in the middle that takes itself seriously. The brand is Dutch by origin and has built its reputation almost entirely on raw, unwashed denim and a design language that leans industrial: exposed seams, unconventional cuts, the occasional piece that looks like it was sketched by someone who also designs motorcycle parts. If that sounds niche, it is. G-Star knows its audience and mostly caters to it without apology.
What it actually sells is a full wardrobe, but denim is the anchor. Jeans, jackets, and shorts are where the brand is strongest. Beyond that, you'll find T-shirts, knitwear, outerwear, and a modest footwear range - all sharing the same utilitarian-meets-streetwear aesthetic. The women's range has expanded considerably over the years and is no longer an afterthought. Kids' clothing exists too, though it's limited.
Shopping on g-star.com is straightforward. Product pages are well-photographed with detailed fit guides, which matters when you're spending this much on jeans. Size and fit information is more reliable than average for the category - G-Star's cut-naming system (3301, Radar, Midge, and so on) has its own learning curve, but the site explains each one. Returns are accepted within 30 days, and the process is handled online without too much friction.
On delivery, the reality is fairly standard for a premium-ish clothing brand. Standard delivery is typically free above a certain order threshold - useful to confirm at checkout, as thresholds can shift. Express options exist for when you need something by the weekend. International delivery is available, though UK shoppers are well served by the dedicated site.
The honest weakness here is price. G-Star's full-price items are premium by the standards of the high street - a pair of jeans comfortably sits in the £80-£140 range, and outerwear pushes higher. That's not unreasonable for the build quality, but it does mean the sale and discount ecosystem matters more than it might at, say, Levi's or Mango. On that front, CodeHut currently lists 11 active voucher codes and 52 deals, with discounts ranging from 10% all the way up to 80% off on clearance lines. The most common discount is 20% off, which on a £120 jacket is worth having.
The brand competes directly with Levi's at the accessible end and nudges up against Edwin or A.P.C. at the more considered end of denim buying. G-Star's USP is the construction detail - reinforced stitching, 3D denim techniques, the kind of thing that sounds like marketing until you actually hold the garment. It is, by most accounts, well-made. Whether it's worth full price depends on how much you care about that construction story versus simply wanting a good pair of jeans.
G-Star runs a loyalty programme - G-Star Reward - which gives points per purchase and nudges members towards exclusive offers. It's not the most generous scheme in retail, but if you buy here more than once a year it's worth activating. The newsletter is also fairly reliable for sending early-access sale notifications and the occasional subscriber-exclusive code.
Who should shop here: anyone who takes denim seriously, appreciates considered design without the full luxury price tag, and is patient enough to use a discount code or wait for a sale. Who probably shouldn't bother: anyone expecting high-street prices, or shoppers who want something for a night out rather than something built to last.
How to use a G-Star RAW discount code
- Head to g-star.com and add the items you want to your basket. G-Star occasionally restricts codes to full-price items or specific categories, so check the code's terms before you get too attached to your selection.
- Click the basket icon at the top right and proceed to checkout. You'll need to be signed in or enter as a guest - either works for applying a code.
- On the order summary page, look for the field labelled "Promo code" or "Discount code". It's usually visible on the right-hand side of the checkout on desktop, or below your order summary on mobile.
- Type or paste your code exactly as it appears - no extra spaces, and pay attention to capitalisation if the code mixes upper and lower case. Then hit "Apply". The code does not apply automatically; you must press the button.
- Check that the discount has appeared in your order total before entering any payment details. If the code hasn't worked, you'll see an error message - common causes include the code being expired, item exclusions, or a minimum spend not being met.
- Complete your purchase. The discounted total is what you'll be charged; no further adjustments happen after the order confirms.
G-Star RAW shopping tips
- The 20% code is the sweet spot. With 52 deals currently live and the most common discount sitting at 20% off, that figure is realistic to expect rather than hope for. On full-price denim that can save you £20-£30 on a single pair - genuinely useful rather than tokenistic.
- Check whether the code applies to sale items. G-Star's sale section can hit 50-80% off on clearance lines, but many percentage-off codes exclude already-reduced items. Read the small print; stacking a code on top of sale stock is usually not on the table.
- Join G-Star Reward before you buy. Points accumulate per purchase and convert to money-off vouchers. If you're making a larger purchase - a jacket plus jeans, say - registering first means you don't leave points on the table.
- The newsletter is worth it, briefly. G-Star sends early-access codes to email subscribers ahead of major sales events. Sign up a week before Black Friday or the summer sale, grab what you need, then unsubscribe if the ongoing emails aren't your thing.
- End-of-season clearance is where the big discounts live. The 80% off end of the current discount range is clearance stock - sizes and styles will be limited, but if your size is there the saving is significant. Check regularly as stock rotates.
- Fit names are worth learning. G-Star's cut system is consistent across seasons, so once you know that, say, the 3301 slim works for you, future purchases are lower risk. The fit guide on each product page is more detailed than most brands bother with.
- Mobile app occasionally carries app-exclusive promotions. G-Star's app sometimes surfaces codes or early-access offers not available on the main site. Worth downloading before a planned purchase, even if you don't keep it.
- Black Friday and end-of-season sales are the two reliable windows. Full-price G-Star rarely moves, so timing a larger purchase around these events - combined with an active voucher code - is the most straightforward way to get meaningful value.
